My name is Maura Jortner. I grew up in New Hampshire but I now live in Waco, Texas with my patient husband, two amazing daughters, and one unruly cat. I teach literature and writing classes at Baylor University. A lifetime ago, I used to direct plays and put on puppet shows for kids, which led to a Ph.D. in Theatre History. Currently, when I’m not writing, I’m spending my time like every native-born Texan: worrying about how many chiggers might be hidden in the grass outside the house or if I put enough sunscreen on the kids.
